we don’t buy many things outside of necessities, but books are definitely a splurge area. few weeks back, wild drinks and cocktails by emily han went on super amazon sale and we snagged it. i’ve been eyeing this book for a year! even though we love our beer, we’ve been branching out more into cocktails and this seemed like a perfect introduction for a wildcrafting herb and nature loving freak like me. oranges are in season right now, so we bought a bag and made two orange-centric recipes.
the first is calendula sunshine bitters (calendula, cardamom, orange peels) that should be ready in a week. we bought our first bottle of angostura bitters a few months ago, and i’m loving them with my gin.
the second recipe that i’m SO STOKED for is a wine called vin d’orange (grapefruit, cara caras, vanilla bean, brandy, and white wine). this will age for a month on the fruit, then another month strained in the fridge. we thought it might be ready for mayday, but it’s looking like it will be more of a birthday treat!
follow up reports to come 🙂
