make: hair rinse

hair care is a never ending saga in my life.  four years ago i switched to sls/ cone free and cruelty free hair products. two years ago i decided to start experimenting with making my own products … which has been an adventure to say the least. while i am still trying to find a shampoo that works for me, i have found a conditioner that i absolutely adore, and i’m sharing that recipe today (yes, it’s another rosemary gladstar).

herbal hair rinse for blonde higlights

  • 1 qt mason jar
  • 1/2 c calendula flowers
  • 1/4 c comfrey leaves
  • 1/4 c chamomile
  • apple cider vinegar

combine all the herbs in mason jar and shake to mix. fill jar with ACV, enough to cover herbs by 3-4″. let sit for 3 weeks and shake daily. strain herbs. use 2-4 TB mixed with 8-16oz  water, depending on hair length. pour over hair after shampoo/rinse. work in gently and rinse with cool water. the vinegar smell washes out quickly.

i recommended using bragg’s organic and raw vinegar – i find it to be of superior quality. i buy it by the gallon to save $ – we use it everywhere. this rinse leaves my hair shiny and smooth, and feeing so much lighter than conventional conditioner. i use it once/ week when i wash my hair.

  1. This is going to sound crazy, but I’ve been waiting for this post since you gave up on “no poo”. I guess I care a lot about your hair care routine 🙂
