yoga, outside

i have been taking advantage of the summery days to practice yoga outside. i love practicing outside, even though passerbys can see me. there are always surprises to outdoor practice. sometimes you open an arm up to the sky and are blinded by the beautiful sun. sometimes an animal scurries in front of you. sometimes a leaf lands on your mat.this leaf landed on my mat yesterday. i paused my practice and picked it up. i used to get quite annoyed when things interrupted my practice – cats, boyfriend, phone calls – but now i accept it as a challenge to drop back in. this leaf had vibrant veins. i looked at every little block of cellulose. so geometric. geometric patterns in nature please me greatly, so i though of this leaf as a gift of artwork from the universe. i placed it at the head of my mat and continued my practice.
